Tuesday, Aug. 31 – Dranesville Supervisor John Foust sends along this information about Fairfax County and Hurricane Earl. Earl is on the brink of sweeping up the East Coast. This information comes from David M. McKernan, Coordinator Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management.
Hurricane Earl: Thursday night and Friday will be the time period of closest approach. I think what happens over the next 24 hours should really help define where this storm is going to take it’s turn to the north. I would hope by 11am tomorrow, we’ll have a really good handle on whether this will affect Fairfax at all. Right now, the most likely scenario is NO effect on Faifax. It is a powerful storm though, and the current track is a little too close for comfort.
I would advise people to stay plugged in as we approach the weekend when people tend to ‘check out’. Continue to do planning for the possibility of wind, rain, and increased tides, and continue to watch the storm and track.
Tropical storm Fiona. A Tropical Storm and currently is tracked to stay out to sea.
The new update comes out at 11am. Click on a storm on this map to get the forecast track.
Our main concern at this point is the storm surge and areas in New Alexandria that tend to flood as a result of a surge.
