—Restaurant Delayed. McLean 1910, the new casual upscale restaurant schedule to open today in the Langley Shopping Center, has been delayed. Problem: delay in obtaining a liquor license. Owner George Kapetanakis, thinks maybe another two weeks before the opening.
—McLean Police Chief. Capt. Steve Thompson, commander of the McLean Police District, is on leave beginning Thanksgiving Day. Lt. Mike McAllister takes over as acting commander of the district’s 132 sworn officers who protect the communities of McLean, Falls Church, Dunn Loring, Great Falls and Tyson’s Corner.
Capt. Thompson, who returns in the spring, leaves a few days after the task force he headed arrested the suspected serial burglar who had robbed homes in McLean and much of Northern Fairfax County.
—Blockbuster Video Gone. McLean has lost it’s last video store, a victim of how folks get their movies. Company employees were literally taking down the shelves this weekend at the store located next to the Rite Aid. Blockbuster officials had no comment on the closing.
A Special Thanksgiving. Mrs. Bulford’s 5th grade class at Spring Hill Elementary School is celebrating Thanksgiving by sending a care package to Col. Mike Champness , a McLean resident, who is serving in the Air Force Reserve in Afghanistan. The package contains coffee, beef jerky, granola bars and other savory treats. He is stationed at international security assistance force headquarters in Kabul. His daughter is in the class.
