MCLEAN, VA – Fairfax County police are searching for the driver who hit a utility pole on Kirby Road at Freedom Lane around 2:30am Sunday, then fled the scene.
Kirby Road between Barbee and Powhatan Streets was closed for most of Sunday while Dominion Electric crews repaired the pole and its dangling wires.
Police are investigating and no charges have been placed at this time, a police spokesperson said.
5:40PM Sunday: Fairfax County fire officials said they received a call about 2:30am concerning an accident on Kirby Road. They said they responded but no one was transported from the scene. Further investigation is in the hands of the Fairfax County police.
Update: Kirby Road between Barbee Street and Powhatan Street remained closed thru Sunday afternoon as crews from Dominion Power continued to repair power lines and a pole damaged when a car hit it in the early morning hours.
A pole on the south side of Kirby Road was leaning and its wires were tangled as crews began their work about 8am. By late afternoon the new pole was in place and crews worked in repairing the down wires. Motorists found themselves making U-turns or detouring through the southern park of Kent Gardens to get around the road closing.
Reportedly a car hit the pole. There is a tight curve on this stretch of Kirby Road.
Earlier this year an empty school bus from Chesterbrook Elementary School ran off of Kirby Road at Barbee Street and hit a tree.
