Generous McLean Neighbor Gives $5 million to Food Bank
MCLEAN, VA – One of our McLean neighbors “one of the country’s wealthiest philanthropists” announced Monday that he was donating $5 million to speed the building of the Capital Area Food bank, according to a story in Tuesday’s Washington Post.
The Post story said the donation by Willliam E. Conway Jr., co-founder and managing director of the private equity firm The Carlyle Group would “jump start construction of the $37 million facility. . . allowing it to double its capacity during a time of crucial need.”
Conway lives just off of Dolley Madison Boulevard in the same neighborhood as his former Carlyle colleague Daniel Akerson, who now heads GM. Conway and his wife bought the house in 1990.
The Ear applauds generous thoughtful neighbors.
